Vancouver Self Defense:  Reporting & Assistance

Regardless of the outcome, if you are attacked, you will experience some level of after shock. Remember that you do not want to go home, clean up, change clothes, etc. You must instead immediately.

TAKE THESE THREE STEPS:

  1. Seek emergency medical assistance (where physical evidence may also be documented).
  2. Report the incident to the authorities with as much detail as possible. Time line is critical and this is your opportunity to engage with forces that can bring the criminal to justice and prevent it happening to someone else!
  3. Inquire as to government programs available in your area to assist physically, emotionally and financially. This may include criminal injury compensation, victim’s assistance programs, etc. Depending on your circumstances, you may find that government financial resources are available for medical aid, loss of work, nursing/rehabilitation, transportation, child care, counseling, dental, replacement of your damaged clothing, glasses, hearing aids, etc. as a result of the incident.

*Note that there can be limitations to the time you have to apply for such programs after being attacked.
